Student Stories
Nina Scott
Accountant, Montana
Balancing her life as a full-time accountant and a dedicated mom, Nina dreamt of becoming a tattoo artist. But in her small town, apprenticeships were few and far between, and none of them would let her learn while also working full-time to support her family.
Here’s how Nina Scott went from having zero tattoo experience to opening her own studio in just one year with Tattooing 101.
Justin Underwood
Construction, South Dakota
After years of early mornings and hard labor working construction, Justin knew he wanted a change - to pursue tattooing as a career.
But when he found himself in an abusive tattoo apprenticeship, he decided to take control of his own tattoo education with online training. After completing the Artist Accelerator Program, he was hired on the spot in a shop and now co-owns his own tattoo studio.
Austin Harley
Muralist, Washington
With bills to pay and people depending on him, Austin couldn’t give up his income to take on a traditional tattoo apprenticeship.
He’d honed his art skills for years, but still couldn’t find a way into the industry until he found Tattooing 101. Learning online gave him the foot in the door that he needed, and he began tattooing professionally in his own studio in just 3 months after joining Tattooing 101.
Heather Sharbutt
Graphic Design, Alabama
A working mother with a full-time job, Heather had always juggled her passion for art with her other responsibilities. It wasn’t until she was well established in another career that Heather realized that tattooing might be the opportunity she’d been looking for to make money through art while also keeping a steady paycheck.
But with such a busy schedule, learning online gave her the flexibility she needed to start her tattoo career and build her brand as a fine-line tattoo artist.
Ben Meeks
Server, Utah
Ben was facing the problem so many aspiring tattoo artists run into: with so much to learn and so much information about tattooing on the internet…he had no idea where to start.
Tattooing 101 gave him the structured, straightforward answers he needed to begin his career and open his own private studio.
Brock Guerrero
Business Owner, Idaho
Living in a city that requires an in-person tattoo apprenticeship, Brock felt stuck, struggling to convince local tattoo artists he was ready to take his first steps into the industry. But he couldn’t give up on his dream and decided to start learning on his own…and found Tattooing 101.
After going through the Artist Accelerator Program and building a strong portfolio, a professional tattoo artist offered him an expedited apprenticeship so he could start working full-time, faster.
Phil Schiff
Server, Utah
Phill knew he wanted to become a tattoo artist, but moving every two years for military placements made it impossible for him to learn in a studio. Learning online allowed him to get clear, consistent education and build his skills.
Now that he’s out of the military, Phill is tattooing full-time with clients constantly going to him for his unique New School style.
